Carlsberg Group updated ESG programme ‘Brewing Tomorrow’

Carlsberg Group has introduced its updated ESG programme, “Brewing Tomorrow,” strengthening its focus on sustainability and long-term business resilience.

Built on four pillars—Cutting Carbon, Protecting Nature, Empowering People, and Inspiring Choice, the programme outlines a clearer, action-driven roadmap. A major shift includes adopting absolute carbon reduction targets across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Following the 2025 acquisition of Britvic, Carlsberg’s emissions rose by 16%, prompting a revised ESG target timeline to 2032, while maintaining its net zero ambition by 2040. The acquisition also expanded its portfolio, with soft drinks now accounting for 30%.

The company continues to scale efforts in regenerative agriculture, circular packaging, and water stewardship, while introducing new sugar reduction and inclusion goals.

In 2025, Carlsberg achieved an 8% reduction in value chain emissions and sourced 90% of its electricity from renewables. Packaging reached 51% recycled content, surpassing its 2030 target early, while water replenishment in high-risk areas rose to 32%.

No- and low-alcohol brews now account for 31% of sales, and women hold 34% of senior leadership roles, reflecting its broader ESG progress.
